Verse of the Month

"From you the word of the Lord has sounded forth."

1 Thessalonians 1;8

Focus

The young believers in Thessalonica are a great example to us today in so many ways.  They are commended by Paul for their

  • “work of faith”
  •  “labour of love”
  • “Patience of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ”
  • “their brotherly love”.

They had turned to God from idols and were waiting for His Son from Heaven”.

What a great condition to be in - wholeheartedly serving God while living in the anticipation of the return of Christ.  What an impact they made in their community.

Chapter 1 v 8 says “From you the word of the Lord has sounded forth”. No wonder Paul could commend them so highly.  Note that all the praise came from outside - they themselves were never boastful.

What about us?  Would that we all were living like them.

We think of our witness in the Gospel.  There have been the Summer Youth camps and the visit to Angola. The Coffee morning and Kidzone have started again for the new season.  Open air work also starts again this month and the Gospel preaching continues Sunday by Sunday.  Pray that the Lord will bless our efforts.  That we will be known as those “from whom the word of The Lord has sounded forth”.  We must never boast of what we do, God can only bless the humble. Let us learn to be completely dependent on Him - Salvation is a Divine work.

One concern Paul expresses in chapter 4 is the need for constant purity in their walk before God and men. We need to be sanctified and holy.

As we await the Lord’s return may we “abound more and more for His glory”.
