Every Friday at TCF we hold our coffee morning (apart from the month of July and part of August). In fact, the name coffee morning is misleading. It is held in the morning as it runs from 10.30 am till noon but coffee is by no means the most popular hot drink. As a rough estimate several gallons of hot tea is consumed for every pint of coffee. The home-baked scones, pancakes tray bakes and cakes are also very popular. There is a general buzz from all the conversations going on simultaneously at the different tables. There is a very good attendance each week with an average of 50 or 60 people attending - the majority of whom are not members of TCF.
We have special events at Christmas and Easter when we have young people from TCF participating in musical items etc. We also have good links with the nearest primary school and we have enjoyed many performances from the p7 children from Glencairn Primary School.
We have regulars who have attended since the first coffee morning in 2006 and we also welcome visitors from further afield - even from England and U.S.A - when they are visiting the area.
TCF does not charge at all for the catering but several years ago the regulars asked that there should be an opportunity to make donations. Over the years considerable sums of cash have been collected for North Ayrshire Cancer Care. There is also a once a year Macmillan Coffee Morning where the proceeds are donated to this cancer care charity.
Every week there is a short "Thought for the Day" given by one of the elders. The two elders are both Stevenston men who are interested in their local area and over the years we have had pictures etc. of the Three Towns area to stimulate nostalgia and conversations.
