At the Cross

James Grayston

'Dissolve my heart in thankfulness, and melt mine eyes to tears.’

Alas! and did my Saviour bleed,
and did my Sovereign die!
Would he devote that sacred head
for sinners such as I?

Was it for crimes that I have done,
he groaned upon the tree?
Amazing pity! Grace unknown!
And love beyond degree!

Well might the sun in darkness hide,
and shut its glories in,
when God, the mighty maker, died
for his own creature's sin.

Thus, might I hide my blushing face
while his dear cross appears;
dissolve my heart in thankfulness,
and melt mine eyes to tears.

But drops of tears can ne'er repay
the debt of love I owe.
Here, Lord, I give myself away;
'tis all that I can do.

Are you thankful? Do you really appreciate what Jesus did for you?

As we approach Easter weekend, I am ever so thankful for the cross. The cross represents God’s love in sacrificing His Own Son and also, Jesus’ victory over sin and death.

If you are reading this and you don’t have Christ in your heart then I strongly urge you to consider what Easter is all about and what Jesus did for you. If you do, then celebrate Easter by telling everyone of God’s love for them and be ever so thankful that you are saved from sin and death.

In the words of the hymn above, 'dissolve my heart in thankfulness, and melt mine eyes to tears.’
