I have always liked pithy one liners. Years ago on a Christmas card I saw the expression ‘Wise men from the east came to worship Him – wise men still do!’
It seems to me a good way to live, as well as a good way to start a new year.
What will be our priorities this coming year? Who will be the people who occupy our attention? Will it be on the latest celebrities of TV shows, soaps, films, magazines?
Or is there someone else who is far superior to us all, someone like Jesus Christ, on whom our thoughts and focus will be?
He is the Son of God, who died for our sins on the cross, rose again from the dead, and lives in the power of an endless life. These are just a few quick reasons why he is worthy of our attention, and more than just a passing glance at the festive season. He is worthy of our trust and our worship.
The wise men knew Who was the object of THEIR worship. They travelled a long way and left aside normal everyday activities to come and see Jesus. They knew where their priorities lay.
As a new year beckons, may it for us be more than just a one liner – Wise men from the east came to worship Him – wise men, women & young people from all nations still do!’
