Indescribable Love

James Grayston

Indescribable: too unusual, extreme or indefinite to be adequately described.

As someone who recently got engaged, I'd like to think I'm a person that could describe how to love someone. When I think about my fiancé I can describe various reasons why I love her, whether that's the things she does or the way she is. That love has grown from a relationship over a couple of years and as the years go on we get closer. It's something that has to be demonstrated or the person wouldn't know they are loved. It's easy to say we love someone but it's only through our actions that this can be seen.

There is a love I cannot explain at all however and that is the love of God. God has loved you before you were even conceived. He looked upon you before you were formed and knew every single wrong thing you would ever do or say or speak. Indescribable love.

He loved you so much that he sent his only son to die for you. This perfect son that knew only to love and not to hate, many people came to him. The outcasts: the man who was demon possessed, the prostitute, the tax collector, the leper, the woman that suffered bleeding for 12 years and many others. As he was on the cross he could look at the men around him who were laughing at him, who had hit him and pulled the hair from his beard and whipped him and placed a crown of thorns on his head and he could say " father forgive them for they know not what they do." While in agony he could look to his mother and ask a disciple to take care of her. Indescribable love.

On the cross as Jesus died God had to turn away from his son for the first and only time in the entirety of time. A relationship that had been together from the beginning of time was stopped in those three hours of darkness as Jesus hung on the cross. Indescribable love.

We have all been and still are loved with indescribable love. A love spanning thousands of years and if we place our trust in this God and this man Jesus that have loved us so will span the rest of eternity, no matter what we have done or said or thought.
