I've most probably said this before, so bear with me - it's worth saying again. For me, there's a time every year when the tinsel, decorations and commerciality of Christmas are unwrapped and discarded to reveal it's true meaning. When parties and mince pies and twinkling lights suddenly fade into the background and the Light of the World, God's amazing gift to all, shines into the darkness in beauty and majesty. Jesus, Saviour.
When this occurs, the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end and I'm awestruck at the wonder of it all. Emmanuel - God with us. The Creator came down, was cradled in Mary's arms, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a feeding trough. God sent his Son to be the Saviour of the world. No royal palace or throne or material wealth- He came to where we were. Felt our pain. Lived where we live.
Listening to and singing the song Emmanuel-Hallowed Manger Ground, was the moment, this year, that struck me with the true meaning of Christmas. It made me think of God's love for me, me personally, you personally. "This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, his one and only Son." The Message.
There will be many gifts given this Christmas, but the greatest gift of all, God's gift can't be bought, or earned, it's free. God's gift is real life, eternal life, delivered by Jesus..." The Message. Jesus is God's gift to you. Accept this free gift and come into a relationship with Him.
Why not come along to Townhead Christian Fellowship's Christmas Service at 7.00pm on Christmas Eve and hear more about Emmanuel. A warm welcome awaits.
