Most nativity plays will have the song ‘Away in a manger’ in it at some point. Normally, this song is sung by children all dressed up; Mary, Joseph, shepherds, wise men, Angels’ etc. It might not always be beautifully sung or in the correct key, but most likely you’ll have that little lump in your throat while listening to them sing.
Christmas for many children is all about Santa, presents, advent calendars; and for parents, Christmas can be just as exciting as you watch the excitement in on their faces.
When I talk to my daughter and ask her "What’s the most important part of Christmas?," her reply is, "Baby Jesus was born." How true that it! Don’t get me wrong, I love the Christmas season, the hype and all the festivities, but the reason for the season is JESUS.
Last Christmas, I was expecting my second child and as I anxiously awaited her arrival, I remember thinking; I had a warm, clean hospital to go, trained professionals at hand, everything I could have needed - Mary didn’t. At the birth of Jesus, there was a cold, dark, and damp stable, with only Joseph by her side. It must have been quite scary for them both, but that is where the Saviour of the world was born.
God became man and came to this earth to save us all from our sin. I pray that this Christmas people will realise that it’s not all about Santa, presents, and parties, but rather there is a far greater reason for this season.
"Be Near me, Lord Jesus.
I ask Thee to stay,
Close by me forever,
And love me I pray."
Have a Merry Christmas! And I pray that people will come to know and love the Saviour the way I do.
