O Holy Night

James Grayston

Without doubt Holy Night is one of my favourite carols – It takes key messages which are contained in God’s Word and communicates them in a way to reveal the true message of Christmas. Just take a look at the words on one of the verses –

Truly He taught us to love one another,
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains he shall break, for the slave is our brother.
And in his name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
With all our hearts we praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! Then ever, ever praise we,
His power and glory ever more proclaim!
His power and glory ever more proclaim!

In a year were we have seen awful things in our TV screens across the world. Where society is breaking apart morally, spiritually & and culturally surely the message that He will break the chains for the slave, teach us what love is and bring true peace is something we should be celebrating.

What a great day when God stepped into time as a real man and made a way clear to righteousness and true forgiveness by the cross. O Holy Night, O night divine.

I love this version as well – it’s been a bit jazzed up by a great band called Third Day. It has a fantastic arrangement and he absolutely hits the famous high note. Have a listen and don’t miss the message.
