It was in the upper room that Christ instituted the Lord’s Supper with the symbols of the bread and of the wine. Bread for His body given for us; Wine his blood shed for the sin of the world. Yours and mine. Through this feast the believer remembers the death of the Lord Jesus Christ. It makes us remember the immense cost of our Salvation.
It was in the upper room that Christ also made three promises:
- That he would rise again on the third day.
- That he would send “The Helper” (Holy Spirit) who when he came would convict the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgement.
- And last but by no means the least He would come again!
He has already fulfilled the first two promises. He rose from the dead on the third day and is now seated at God’s right hand forever more. The Holy Spirit has been sent into the world and is convicting men of sin. We don’t know when our Lord will come but we can rest in the assurance that he will come again and the world had better be ready.
“For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till he come.”
