When was the last time your prayed? It's a simple question but the answer will vary greatly from ridicule all the way through to a simple response of the last time you raised a request to God.

Some reading this might remember praying as a child kneeling at their bed with a parent standing in the background. Some will recount a prayer at a time when illness or worse was standing in the shadow of their life. Others will, by this time, have ceased from reading the blog, dismissing the question as simple. No doubt indicating that there's no God and no point in prayer. Its simply a crutch for the weak.

Let me return to the question. When was the last time you prayed? While you answer this in your head wherever you are let me ask you another question.

What is prayer? Its the means by which a person can speak to God. Before I go on just let me stop for a moment and think about how amazing this statement is. It is the means by which I can speak to the one who created the universe and everything in it. I am able to speak to the one who "made the stars also". You might doubt the content of this last paragraph but that really doesn't matter. I kneel at His majesty and give Him all the glory and the praise. He allows me to speak with Him actually even more than this. Peter tells us that God is attentive to the prayers of the righteous. Wow! God tells us in Revelation that He collects the prayers of the saints.

To talk with someone properly you need to make sure there is nothing wrong with your relationship. If there is, what you are trying to communicate may not be effective. Whatever the barrier is, will get in the way. I would think this is a pretty common sense statement which most would agree with. Yet, we seem to think God will be different.

When I asked when was the last time your prayed what was you answer. This morning? Last year? When I was a child? I never have?

Isaiah the prophet told the nation of Israel - .. "your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear."

The barrier of sin is real. It creates isolation, it leads to individuals living in prisons without walls. It leads to death and is relentless as it attacks our very soul.

The great news of the bible is this is why Jesus came to die on the cross. He came to set us all free. He said "The Spirit of the Lord is on me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favour. ”

If you are spiritually poor, in prison, blind or oppressed the message is for you. If you're struggling to reach God and you would like to come to Him in confession. Tell Him that you've sinned. Tell Him your sorry and that you are ready to follow Him. He will take away your sin and give you abundant life.

When was the last time you prayed? It doesn't matter. He is only a prayer away.

We would love you to hear more. We have a Praise Night on Sunday 6.30pm at Townhead Christian Fellowship. The speaker on Sunday is John Dick from Cumbernauld. Directions to the hall are detailed on this website. We really look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
