"So the man went away and began to tell in Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed."
Mark 5:20
Focus
‘So the man went away and began to tell in Decapolis how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.’
This man just did exactly what Jesus told him. After Jesus had cast out the man’s demons He told him “Go home to your family and tell them how much The Lord has done for you, and how He has had mercy on you.” His reaction was immediate and he did just what he was told. Look at the people’s reaction - they were amazed.
Each one of us as Christians, have been given a similar instruction - you may recognise it. “Go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of The Son and of The Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”
Despite this very direct commandment from our Lord and Saviour, sometimes telling others all The Lord has done for us is the hardest thing. I can have all sorts of reasons why and while I list them in my head I think of the colleagues, neighbours , friends and yes, even family that I have never spoken to . I tell myself - they know what I believe, they know I’m a Christian. If they want to know something they will ask. Lord, please forgive me for my failure and fear - please give me the words to help share what you have done!
Roofdiggers Weekend is only 4 weekends away Let’s never forget the challenge Stewart gave us as a church more than 4 years ago. We should be bringing others to Jesus - we should make the effort and not let others prevent our goal of helping them meet the Saviour. I was going to say let’s all make the effort to ask people to come to one of the meetings. It’s not about making the effort -let’s do just what Jesus has asked us to do - tell them how much the Lord has done for you!
This is not one of these moments when the preacher says this is a message for the young folk - we’re all asked to fulfil our Lord’s command. While we struggle with just asking someone let’s not forget three things. 1. All authority has been given to Jesus. 2. He is always with us and 3. We can do nothing greater for our family, friends, neighbours or colleagues than bringing them to Jesus. It could have an impact on where they spend eternity!
“And all the people were amazed.”
